James van Riemsdyk Out With Upper-Body Injury

25 Nov

Add another one fo the Flyers’ injured list. James van Riemsdyk will miss the next one to two weeks with an upper-body injury, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

“It happened in the third period the other night,” said Holmgren. “He went to pass the puck and he’s out with an upper-body injury right now.”

Van Riemsdyk did not play in the final two minutes of regulation or in overtime against the New York Islanders on Wednesday night. It is unclear when the injury occured. He has eight goals and eight assists on the season.

The general manager did not say whether van Riemsdyk’s injury is significant enough to warrant another call-up from the Phantoms.

“Obviously he’s not gonna play [Saturday],” said Holmgren. “We’ll have a better idea early in the week on James.

“We’re hoping to get him back sooner then [one to two weeks] obviously, but we’ll see how it comes over the next few days.”

Heading into Saturday’s contest against the Rangers, the Flyers have only 12 healthy forwards. Jaromir Jagr is on the mend, and hopes to come back for the next game, Dec. 2, but carrying the bare minimum is dangerous for the Flyers who play 11 of their next 14 games on the road.

“Unfortunately for Jaromir and for us he aggravated the same injury, so we’re gonna take it a little slower this time,” said Holmgren. “He did have a different treatment the last couple days since the injury so we’re shooting for Friday now.”
