Jagr Will Try To Play Against Islanders

VOORHEES, N.J. — This weekend marked the first time Jaromir Jagr had missed a game in seven years. He sat out with a groin pull, but is anxious to return. Even though the Flyers don’t absolutely need him, as the late November stretch isn’t the most intense of the season, he doesn’t like sitting out.

“Well, at my age it’s like losing one year of your life,” said Jagr. “You’ve got not many left.”

The superstitious winger knocked on the wooden bench when talking about his potential return. He skated with the team in the morning skate on Monday, but largely was on his own, not participating in the drills. Tuesday was different. He was a full participant and said he feels like he can play against the Islanders on Wednesday.

“It was a pretty good practice. We did some game drills and it didn’t bother me,” said Jagr. “I didn’t go 100 percent, but I don’t want to do anything stupid to not be able to skate tomorrow. Now I have an extra one and a half days to heal it.”

He originally hurt himself last Thursday, against the Phoenix Coyotes, but feels like it’s progressing nicely after taking a couple days off, seeing an acupuncturist and getting back on the ice.

“It feels a lot better than it did two days ago,” said Jagr. “I wanted to play [Monday], but I went to the morning skate and I didn’t feel right. I just don’t want to make it worse damage than there was before.

“Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to skate in the morning and then play in the game.”
